Founder & Paramedical Tattoo Artist

Michelle Bowman is the founder of Canvas of Courage, a paramedical tattoo studio serving breast cancer survivors in San Antonio, Texas. She specializes in 3D areola tattooing for women who have undergone a mastectomy and/or breast reconstruction.

She received her paramedical tattoo certification through Ink Boutique Houston, an international leader in paramedical tattooing.

Michelle's passion for this work comes from a deeply personal place. At just 30 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a full mastectomy with implant reconstruction. As part of her own healing journey, she received 3D areola tattoos, an experience that helped her understand how meaningful this final step of restoration can be.

Before founding Canvas of Courage, Michelle worked as a Financial Analyst. But after walking through breast cancer herself, she felt called to create something more personal: a place where she could use her own journey to help other women feel supported, seen, and restored in theirs.

Why Canvas of Courage

Canvas of Courage was founded in February 2026 for breast cancer survivors who are ready for the next step in their healing journey after mastectomy and reconstruction.

For Michelle, this work is not "just tattooing." It is about helping women reconnect with themselves, their confidence, and their bodies after cancer has taken so much. Her goal is to help each client feel whole again: not by changing who they are, but by helping restore something deeply personal that was lost.

When you look in the mirror, Michelle wants you to see the strong, beautiful, confident person you are.

My Approach

At Canvas of Courage, every client is treated with care, respect, and compassion. Michelle takes a personalized approach to 3D areola tattooing, focusing on realism, natural-looking results, and the unique needs of each individual client.

Every detail is thoughtfully customized, including color, shape, size, and placement. Because every reconstruction journey is different, Michelle takes the time to create results that feel natural, balanced, and personal to you.

As a fellow breast cancer survivor, Michelle understands how emotional and important this step can be. She knows this is not just another appointment, and it is not just another tattoo. It is an important part of your healing journey.

"I know how much cancer can take from a person. I also know how powerful it can feel to take one more step toward feeling whole again.

My hope is that Canvas of Courage gives you a place where you feel safe, understood, and supported. Whether you are just beginning to explore 3D areola tattooing or you feel ready to take that next step, I would be honored to walk with you through this part of your healing journey."
